Bemidji State University Sweeps Golden Eagle Baseball Team to Take Series 3-1

(Crookston, Minn.) – Bemidji State University swept the University of Minnesota, Crookston Friday night at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn. at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC)/LJK Classic. The Beavers took game one by a 4-2 score and won the nightcap 9-1.
Game One
With the game tied 2-2 in the fifth inning, Bemidji State University added a run in the fifth and a run in the sixth to defeat U of M, Crookston by a 4-2 score. Both pitchers were solid with Josh Juntunen of the Beavers throwing a complete game to get the victory. He gave up two runs on four hits while striking out ten and walking none. Shawn Motl (So, RHP/3B, Staples, Minn.) threw five innings allowing three runs while scattering ten hits and striking out one. Jordan Triestram (So, IF/RHP, Shakopee, Minn.) was 1 for 3 with two runs batted in (RBI) for the Golden Eagles. Paul Newman was 3 for 4 with an RBI for the Beavers.
Game Two
Bemidji State University broke open a 1-1 game with a five run fourth inning and went on to win 9-1. Tyler Reiner (Jr, C/RHP, Sanborn, Minn.) was 2 for 3 with a double and one run scored. Anthony Stoloski was 3 for 3 with three RBI and three runs scored for Bemidji State.
The Beavers improve to 5-9 overall and 3-1 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles drop to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in the NSIC. U of M, Crookston is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, March 29 and Sunday, March 30 when they travel to Grand Forks, N.D. to take on the University of North Dakota. Both doubleheaders start at 12:00 pm at Kraft Field.
