(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston’s Amanda Peterson (So, Rochester, Minn.) will compete at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Western Semifinals hosted by West Texas A & M University in Canyon, Texas on Saturday, March 29 and Sunday, March 30.  She qualified for the show by winning the Regional Zone 9, Region 3 Advanced Horsemanship class back on March 8.  As Amanda advances to semifinals, she will compete against the top two riders from seven different regions and zones.  On Saturday, preliminary classes will be held and the top eight to ten riders will be chosen to advance into the finals which will be held on Sunday.  The Champion and Reserve Champion in each division will then advance to the IHSA National Competition which will be held on May 8-11, 2008 in Los Angeles, Cal.

“Amanda has an excellent shot at the National Competition,” says Golden Eagle Western Coach Nicky Overgaard. “She has been working hard in practice and brings a wealth of experience in the Horsemanship classes.  The pattern is going to account for a large portion of her score and I feel this is where Amanda shines.  She is capable of riding any kind of horse and can ride a solid pattern.  We are looking forward to this show in Texas.”
