Fighting Sioux Pound Out 20 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep of Golden Eagles

(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of North Dakota scored 20 runs and held the University of Minnesota, Crookston to two runs on five hits as the Fighting Sioux swept a non-conference doubleheader today in Bismarck, N.D. North Dakota took game one by a 9-1 score and the nightcap by an 11-1 score.
Game One
Scott Schmidt was 4 for 4 with and Andrew Gudmunson added three hits and three runs batted in (RBI) as the Fighting Sioux won 9-1. Sean Cooley threw a complete game allowing one run on three hits while striking out 15. Matt Morin (Sr, OF, East Grand Forks, Minn.) had a single and an RBI for the Golden Eagles.
Game Two
Mike Lueck threw a complete game allowing one run on two hits and striking out 17 as North Dakota took the nightcap from U of M, Crookston by an 11-1 score. Jake Magner and Chris Gulsvig each homered for the Fighting Sioux. The Golden Eagles scored their lone run on a sacrifice fly by Max Saarinen (So, LHP/OF, Detroit Lakes, Minn.).
The University of Minnesota, Crookston drops to 3-7 on the season. The University of North Dakota improves to 7-5. The two teams will meet again on Monday, March 31 in Bismarck, N.D. The doubleheader will begin at 12:00 pm.
