Golden Eagle Softball Travels to Wayne State College for First NSIC Crossover of Season

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Women’s Softball team opens Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play this weekend at Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb. The Golden Eagles are coming off a sweep of North Central University on Monday, March 31. Due to inclement weather, the team has not played a game outdoors yet this season.
Minnesota, Crookston opens the conference season against Upper Iowa University on Saturday, April 5 at 9:00 a.m. The team then plays SW Minnesota State at 1:00 p.m. and Concordia- St. Paul at 3:00 p.m. The Golden Eagles return to the field on Sunday, April 6 to play Wayne State College at 10:00 a.m. and Winona State University at 2:00 p.m.
The Golden Eagles are 6-2 overall and 0-0 in NSIC play. UMC hosts its first home games next Tuesday, April 8 (2 PM) against North Central University, Wednesday, April 9 (3 PM) against MSU Moorhead* and Thursday, April 10 (3 PM) against the University of North Dakota at the UMC Softball Field.
Player Spotlight: Sarena Diederichs (Fr, C, St. Cloud, Minn.) has started in seven of eight games for the Golden Eagles this season. She has a .577 batting average, leads the team in hits with 15 and is second on the team in runs scored with 15. Defensively, Diederichs has 23 putouts, four assists and has not committed an error this season.
