Golden Eagle Softball Goes 0-5 at First NSIC Crossover of Season

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Women’s Softball team opened Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play on April 5 and 6 at Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb.
The Golden Eagles came out strong in the first game and played solid defense but fell to Upper Iowa 2-1. UMC fell to Southwest Minnesota State 9-4 and Concordia-St. Paul 9-1 later on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday, Minnesota, Crookston fell 8-0 to Wayne State College and 8-0 to Winona State University. A combination inexperience and solid NSIC pitching held the Golden Eagle offense to six runs in the crossover.
Player Spotlight: Katie Bowar (Fr, 1B, Moorhead, Minn.) led the Golden Eagles offensively on the weekend. She went 3-9 (.333) at the plate with one RBI, one walk and one stolen base. Defensively, Bowar tallied 23 putouts, one assist and had a .923 fielding percentage. On the season, she is third on the team in batting average (.400). She has 12 hits, 12 runs scored and leads the team in runs batted in with 16.
The Golden Eagles are 6-7 overall and 0-5 in NSIC play. UMC hosts its first home games next Wednesday, April 9 (3 PM) against MSU Moorhead* and Thursday, April 10 (3 PM) against the University of North Dakota at the UMC Softball Field.
