Upper Iowa Rallies to Earn Doubleheader Sweep Over Golden Eagles

(Crookston, Minn.) – Upper Iowa University rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat the University of Minnesota, Crookston 6-4 in the night-cap of a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) doubleheader today in Fayette, Iowa. The Peacocks took the opener 3-0.

 

Game One

 

U of M, Crookston’s Paul Krebs (Jr, C/RHP, Little Falls, Minn.) was solid on the hill allowing one earned run on four hits over 4.2 innings. He struck out three and walked three. Jeff Carr (So, RHP, Eagle River, Wis.) was solid in relief throwing 1.1 innings while allowing no runs on one hit while striking out one and walking one. Jake Poehler (Fr, OF, Coon Rapids, Minn.) extended his hitting streak to ten games with a single.

 

Game Two

 

U of M, Crookston took a 1-0 lead into the sixth inning when Poehler homered to increase his hitting streak to 11 games and give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead. They added a run to take a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth before U of M, Crookston pitcher Jordan Triestram (So, RHP/IF, Shakopee, Minn.) was hit in the back with a line drive. Upper Iowa proceeded to score six runs (only two earned) on their way to a 6-4 victory. Triestram was stellar on the mound throwing 5.2 innings allowing two earned runs on five hits. He struck out four and walked two. Carr was steady in relief again allowing two unearned runs on one hit over two-thirds of an inning. Poehler was 2 for 4 with one run batted in and one run scored.

 

U of M, Crookston falls to 3-18 overall and 1-13 in the NSIC. Upper Iowa improves to 15-19 overall and 12-6 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Aberdeen, S.D. for an NSIC doubleheader against Northern State University. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
