Northern State Scores 27 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep of Golden Eagles

(Crookston, Minn.) – Northern State University had an offensive explosion scoring 27 runs in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) sweep of the University of Minnesota, Crookston today in Aberdeen, S.D. The Wolves took the opener 12-7 and the nightcap 15-7.
Game One
The Golden Eagles jumped to a 4-0 lead after one inning and held a 5-3 lead going into the bottom of the third before Northern State scored seven runs in the inning and went on to win 12-7. Jake Poehler (Fr, OF, Coon Rapids, Minn.) was 3 for 4 with three runs batted in (RBI) and a run scored. Paul Krebs (Jr, RHP/C, Little Falls, Minn.) added a two-run homerun. Tyler Reiner (Jr, C, Sanborn, Minn.) was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Kayle Lewellen (Jr, IF, Forest Lake, Minn.) and Adam Lee (Fr, IF, Halstad, Minn.) each added two hits. U of M, Crookston had a total of 13 hits. Adam Kampsen was 2 for 3 with 5 RBI for the Wolves. He also hit two homeruns.
Game Two
Northern State scored 12 runs over the last four innings and went on to win 15-7. Poehler hit a three-run homerun for U of M, Crookston. David Lovly (Jr, OF, Goodridge, Minn.) added two hits. Kampsen was 4 for 5 with a three-run homerun for the Wolves.
U of M, Crookston drops to 3-20 overall and 1-15 in the NSIC. Northern State improves to 7-21 overall and 5-15 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, April 19 and Sunday, April 20 when they travel to Winona, Minn. for an NSIC series with Winona State University. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm on Saturday and 12:00 pm on Sunday.
Note: Jake Poehler (Fr, OF, Coon Rapids, Minn.) has now hit safely in 13 straight games.
