Winona State Sweeps Golden Eagles

(Crookston, Minn.) – Winona State University showed plenty of offensive firepower and solid pitching as they swept a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) doubleheader from the University of Minnesota, Crookston today in Winona, Minn. The Warriors took game one by a 17-1 score and the nightcap by a 15-1 margin.
Game One
Winona State University blew the game open with a ten run second inning and went on to take a 17-1 victory. John Magee led the Warriors with four hits and four runs batted in (RBI). Ross Hellenbrand was 2 for 4 with four RBI while Mike Wendland was 2 for 4 with three RBI for the Warriors. Jared Anderson added two hits and three RBI. Adam Lee (Fr, IF, Halstad, Minn.) had two hits for the Golden Eagles.
Game Two
The Warriors pounded out 15 runs on 14 hits to take the 15-1 victory. Kyle Collins had three hits for Winona State.
U of M, Crookston falls to 3-22 overall and 1-7 in the NSIC. Winona State University improves to 17-12 overall and 12-8 NSIC. The two teams will meet again on Monday, April 21. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
Note - Jake Poehler (Fr, OF, Coon Rapids, Minn.) went hitless in game two to end his hitting streak at 14 games.
