Winona State Takes Series from Golden Eagles

(Crookston, Minn.) – Winona State University showed why they are perennially among the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) elite in baseball. The Warriors scored 33 runs on 31 hits as they swept the University of Minnesota, Crookston by scores of 14-4 and 19-0 today in Winona, Minn.
Game One
After being held scoreless in their half of the first inning, Winona State scored in every inning to secure the 14-4 victory. Joe Kley was 4 for 4 with five runs batted in (RBI) while Ronnie Olson and Andrew Kes each added two hits. Jake Poehler (Fr, OF, Coon Rapids, Minn.) was 2 for 4 while Brett Wright (So, OF, Cortland, N.Y.) was 2 for 3 with one RBI. Adam Lee (Fr, IF, Halstad, Minn.) added a hit and an RBI.
Game Two
The Warriors scored in every inning on their way to a 19-0 victory in the nightcap. Kes was 3 for 3 with five RBI including two homeruns. Sam Henriksen was 3 for 4 with 3 RBI. Poehler added two hits for the Golden Eagles.
U of M, Crookston falls to 3-24 overall and 1-19 in the NSIC. Winona State University improves to 19-12 overall and 14-8 NSIC. The Golden Eagles will return to action on Wednesday, April 23 when they travel to Concordia-St. Paul for an NSIC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm. Note: Jake Poehler (Fr, OF, Coon Rapids, Minn.) has hit safely in 16 of his last 17 games.
