Concordia-St. Paul Sweeps Golden Eagles

(Crookston, Minn.) – Concordia-St. Paul pounded out 27 runs on 40 hits in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) doubleheader sweep of the University of Minnesota, Crookston today in St. Paul, Minn. The Golden Bears took game on by a 9-0 score and the nightcap by an 18-4 clip.
Game One
Concordia-St. Paul opened up a 4-0 lead after two innings and went on to shut out U of M, Crookston 9-0. Brendan Furrow was 3 for 4 for the Golden Bears while Joe Abellera, Jake Waldman and Zane Froelich each had two hits. Jake Poehler (Fr, OF, Coon Rapids, Minn.) was 2 for 3 for the Golden Eagles.
Game Two
Concordia-St. Paul scored 18 runs on 23 hits on their way to an 18-4 victory. Furrow and John Maciej recorded four hits each while Ted Farni and Abellera each had three. Paul Krebs (Jr, C/RHP, Little Falls, Minn.) hit a solo and a three-run homerun for the Golden Eagles. Poehler added a single and has now hit safely in 18 of his last 19 games.
Concordia-St. Paul improves to 20-10 overall and 12-6 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles fall to 3-26 overall and 1-21 in the NSIC.
U of M, Crookston returns to action on Saturday, April 26 and Sunday April 27 when they play host to the University of Mary in a pair of NSIC doubleheaders. Saturday’s games will start at 2:00 pm while Sunday’s will start at 12:00 pm.
