University of Minnesota, Crookston’s Jake Poehler Earns NSIC Baseball Honors

 (Crookston, Minn.) – University of Minnesota, Crookston baseball player Jake Poehler (Fr, OF, Coon Rapids, Minn.) has been named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Co-Freshman of the Year by a vote of league coaches. He shares the honor with Nick Bidroski of Wayne State College. Poehler was also named to the NSIC All-Conference Second Team. Poehler played in 38 of 39 games this season starting all 38. He hit a remarkable .373 (44 for 118) with 21 runs batted in (RBI). Poehler hit six doubles, three triples, three homeruns and scored 19 runs for the Golden Eagles. Defensively he had a fielding percentage of .927 with only four errors on the season. Poehler had a 14 game hitting streak at one point during the season and also hit safely in 19 of 21 games. He led U of M, Crookston in hits, RBI, triples and extra-base hits and was tied for the team lead in homeruns. “This is a tremendous honor not only for Jake but also our whole program, the athletic department and the University of Minnesota, Crookston,” says Golden Eagle Head Baseball Coach Chris Vito. “I have never had a freshman perform to the level that Jake did this season. He worked extremely hard all year and is very humble.
