(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston Golden Eagle Baseball program announced today that Mitch Daly from Donnelly, Minn. will play baseball for the Golden Eagles in 2009. Daly signed a National Letter of Intent with the U of M, Crookston Football program and will play with them this fall as well.

Daly is a 6’1, 215 lb, catcher/first baseman, from Chokio-Alberta High School. He was named All-Conference Honorable Mention as a sophomore and All-Conference as a junior and a senior. He also served as team captain in baseball as a junior and senior. Daly earned All-Conference Honorable Mention in football as a junior, All-Conference in football as a senior and All-Conference in basketball as a sophomore, junior and senior. He also was nominated for the AAA Award (Academics, Athletics and Arts) and was an honor student.

“We are excited to have an athlete of Mitch Daly’s quality join the University of Minnesota, Crookston Baseball program, “ says U of M, Crookston Head Coach Chris Vito. “He will give us another quality catcher and first baseman. Mitch will also bring leadership experience to our program having served as a team captain in high school.”

Daly plans to major in Agriculture Systems Management at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. He is the son of Paul and Pam Daly.

The University of Minnesota, Crookston is a NCAA Division II Institution and a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). Golden Eagle Hockey is a member of the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA). The Golden Eagle Equestrian team is a member of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA).

All signees are contingent upon admission to the University of Minnesota, Crookston and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.
