Golden Eagle Softball Signs Samantha Maki (Hoyt Lakes, Minn.) to an Institutional Letter of Intent

(Crookston, Minn.)- University of Minnesota, Crookston head women’s softball coach Mitch Bakken announced today the signing of Samantha Maki to a UMC letter of intent to play for the Golden Eagles in 2008-09.
Maki is a 5’6, catcher from Mesabi East High School in the Arrowhead and Iron Range Conferences. She earned recognition as an All-Arrowhead Conference and All-Section First Team softball player. Maki also earned Area Player of the Year Honorable Mention honors. In the classroom, she is an All-State Academic student and was the Salutatorian of her class.
“Samantha will come into the program and start learning the Division II game behind the plate working with our returning pitchers and catchers,” says Coach Bakken. “Her athletic ability gives her the opportunity to take reps at other positions as well which will help her as she competes for a starting position with Golden Eagle Softball.”
Maki plans to major in Early Childhood Education at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. She is the daughter of Pam and Doug Maki.

The University of Minnesota, Crookston is a NCAA Division II Institution and a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). Golden Eagle Hockey is a member of the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA). The Golden Eagle Equestrian team is a member of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA).
All signees are contingent upon admission to the University of Minnesota, Crookston and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.
