(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston football opens the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) season in game one against the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State University. The team travels to Marshall, Minn. on August 30th for a 1 p.m. kick-off at the new Regional Event Center. The game will be carried live on KROX 1260 AM (http://www.umcrookston.edu/people/services/MediaServ/stream.htm).
Last season the Golden Eagles and the Mustangs gave fans exactly what they paid for in an NSIC classic at Ed Widseth Field. The two teams clashed for 60 minutes in a gridiron battle that would come down to the final play of the game to decide the victor. When the dust settled, it was the Mustangs who stopped the Golden Eagles on the Southwest Minnesota State one yard-line on the final play of the game to take the victory 20-15.
Offensively the Golden Eagles are led by Aaron Wall (WR, 6’5, 210, JR, New Orleans, La.). Wall led the team in receptions (27), yards (542), average yards per reception (20.1) and average yards per game (60.2). He had a long reception of 50 yards and grabbed two touchdowns in nine games. UMC will look to Tayler Michels (DB, 6’6, 220, SR, Pelican Rapids, Minn.) to captain the team on the defensive side of the ball. Last season Michels led the team in solo tackles (35) and total tackles (66). He broke up two passes and grabbed three interceptions for 25 yards.
The Golden Eagles return to Ed Widseth Field on Saturday, September 6th to host Mayville State University. Kick-off for the non-conference contest is scheduled for 1 p.m. Fans can watch all Golden Eagle games live on Penn Atlantic: http://www.northernsun.tv/.
