(Omaha, Neb.)- UMC vs. Nebraska-Omaha: The University of Minnesota, Crookston women’s volleyball team traveled to Omaha, Neb. this weekend to take part in the Comfort Inn & Suites / Firewater Grille Tournament. The Mavericks, who finished 17-9 overall last season, defeated the Golden Eagles 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 25-15) in today’s first game. The Mavericks proved to be an efficient offensive team, finishing the three sets with attack percentages of .314, .385, .300 and a total of 41 kills to Minnesota, Crookston’s 23. Leading the way offensively in today’s game was UNO’s Sara Kampschnieder who finished the game with 12 kills and a .250 attack percentage. The Golden Eagles were led by Danielle Rueter (OH, FR, 5’9, Burlington, Wis.) who tallied eight kills and a .261 attack percentage. Rueter also led the team defensively with 11 digs. Cassie Yates (S, SR, 5’10, Buffalo, Minn.) recorded 13 assists on the 23 total Golden Eagle kills. Nebraska-Omaha notable performers include Jamie Tooley who had 32 assists on the 41 total Maverick kills. Annie Rice and Kayla Jansen both had three service aces. Jansen also led the team with 13 defensive digs.
UMC vs. NW Missouri State: The Golden Eagle bested the Bearcats in most offensive statistics, however Northwest Missouri State found a way to sneak past the University of Minnesota, Crookston 3-1 (27-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-22). Leading all attackers was Amber Meyer (OH, SO, 6’2, Paxton, Neb.) with 14 kills and a .300 attack percentage in the game. Also tallying double-digit kills for UMC was Rueter who had 13 and 23 defensive digs and Heather Foreman (OH, SR, 5’10, Brandon, Manitoba) who had 11 kills. Kate Holmquist (S, FR, 5’6, Middleton, Wis.) led Golden Eagle setters with 31 assists. Defensively, Andrea Hubbell (MH, SO, 6’1, Isle, Minn.) led all blockers with six block assists and one block solo. The Bearcats were led by Iesha Haskins’ 14 kills. Amber Ryan and Rachel Nisi followed Haskins with 12 and 11 kills respectively. Katie Swanson paced the setters with 48 assists in the game.
UMC vs. Rockhurst: The University of Minnesota, Crookston opened the first set again Rockhurst with a big 27-25 win. Rockhurst would return the favor with three straight set victories to defeat the Golden Eagles 3-1. Rockhurst’s Katy Hernandez tallied 19 kills to lead all offensive attackers. Foreman earned a season high 16 kills followed by Meyer’s 11 for the University of Minnesota, Crookston. Yate’s assisted on 26 of the 45 kills and Jaclyn Slepicka (LIB, 5’2, JR, Crystal Lake, Ill.) led all defenders with 22 defensive digs in the game.
UMC vs. Northern Michigan: Northern Michigan used an impressive .312 attack percentage for the game to defeat the University of Minnesota, Crookston 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-23) in the final game of the University of Nebraska-Omaha Volleyball Tournament. Four Northern Michigan attackers finished the game with double-digit kills. Mandie Meyer led all offensive players with 13 kills and a .407 attack percentage. She was followed by Emma Wolfe and Daniela Bezerra who had 12 kills each. Northern Michigan’s Madeline Odgen led all setters with 45 assists. Amber Meyer continued to have a solid weekend for UMC, finishing the game with 10 kills and a .316 attack percentage. Yates had 18 assists while Slepicka led the Golden Eagle defensively for the second straight game with 10 defensive digs.
The Golden Eagles are 0-4 overall on the season and 0-0 in the NSIC. The team returns to the court on September 5-6 to host the Golden Eagle Invitational. The team’s first game is at noon on Friday, September 5 in Lysaker Gymnasium against Lake Superior State University.
