Golden Eagle Women’s Soccer Team Posts Shut-Out Victory in Home Opener

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women’s Soccer team opened the home season with a great deal of passion and enthusiasm holding visiting UW-Superior to just four shots on goal in a dominating 3-0 victory in non-conference action today in Crookston, Minn.
The Golden Eagles opened the scoring at 6:57 of the game as Justine Jones (Jr., Mid/Fwd, Richland Wash.) took a pass from Auralee Strege (Fr., Fwd, Forest Lake, Minn.) to take a 1-0 lead. U of M, Crookston widened the lead to 2-0 when Jones and Strege connected again at 21:19. Strege moved into the goal column at 84:30 off a pass from Kelsey Palmer (So., Fwd, Crookston, Minn.) to close out the scoring and give the Golden Eagles a 3-0 victory. U of M, Crookston out-shot the Yellowjackets 32-4.
Anna Ogaard (So., GK, Maple Grove, Minn.) and Athena Mussenden (Jr., GK, Kenosha, Wis.) combined on the shut-out.
The Golden Eagles improve to 1-2-0 on the season while UW-Superior falls to 1-3-0. The Golden Eagles will play host to Jamestown College in a non-conference game tomorrow. Game time is 12:00 pm.
