University of Minnesota, Crookston Closes Out Golden Eagle Invitational with 3-0 Loss to South Dakota

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston women’s volleyball team took the court today for the second day of their Golden Eagle Invitational at Lysaker Gymnasium. The team squared off at 4 p.m. against the University of South Dakota Coyotes in the final game of the weekend. South Dakota earned the victory 3-0 (16-25, 17-25, 16-25).

 

The Golden Eagles could only muster a .117 attack percentage in the game as no Golden Eagle player finished in double-digits with kills. Amber Meyer (OH, 6’2, SO, Paxton, Neb.) led UMC with six kills. She was followed closely by Allison Zajicek (MH, 6’0, SR, Beatrice, Neb.) who recorded five. Leading the team in assists was Cassie Yates (S, 5’10, SR, Buffalo, Minn.) with 13 set assists.

 

The University of South Dakota finished the game with a solid kill percentage of .379. Three Coyotes finished with double-digit kills. Kristin Kritenbrink led all attackers with 13 kills. Heather Hult used a phenomenal .846 attack percentage to tally 11 kills with no errors, while Laura Slagter finished with 10 kills overall. Gina Baldwin paced all setters with 37 set assists.


The Golden Eagles are now 0-7 overall and 0-0 in the NSIC. The team travels to Grand Forks, N.D. on Thursday, September 11 to take on the University of North Dakota. The non-conference game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.
