Two individuals and one team will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame during homecoming at the University of Minnesota, Crookston on Friday, September 26, 2008. This year’s inductees include Randy Coauette, wrestling, ex. '75; Bob Clauson, hockey, ex. '82; and the 1989-90 Women's Basketball Team.

The Athletic Hall of Fame recognizes outstanding achievement in athletics. An athlete must have earned two letters in one sport or one letter in two or more sports to qualify with consideration given for personal conduct in sports and personal contributions to the ideal of sports. These inductees exemplify the spirit of excellence in athletics and make up the 2008 Athletic Hall of Fame at the U of M, Crookston:

Randy Coauette, wrestling, ex. '75

U of M, Crookston Trojan wrestler Randy Coauette, coached by Rodney Mosher, placed third in the Minnesota Junior College Wrestling Tournament in 1974; he went on to the National Junior College Wrestling Tournament where he lost to the fourth place finisher. In 1975, he placed fourth in the Minnesota Junior College Tournament and first in the Region 13 wrestling tournament. Coauette continued on to the National Junior College Wrestling Tournament and finished seventh. He was team captain and named most valuable player in 1975.

under Coach Jim Clauson and Assistant Coach Chuck Habstritt. During that year, Clauson had 39 goals and 11 assists in 18 games with an average of 2.8 points per game. He set a new single-game record with six goals beating out a record formerly held by his brother, Jim. Named to the All-Region team as a freshman and sophomore, Clauson also was named to the All-American team. Ten years later as an assistant coach, Clauson helped lead the U of M, Crookston to the first of two back-to-back national championships.

The 1989-90 Women’s Basketball Team, under the direction of Coach Janna Hjelseth and Assistant Coach Tina Bergene, won the 1990 Minnesota Community College State Championship held at Itasca Community College winning against Bethany Lutheran College in the finals with a score of 71-63. The team finished third in the Region 13 tournament. Natalie Ueland and Beth Misegades were named to the 1990 All-State team, the Northwest

All-Division Team and to the All-Tournament Team.

A special recognition social, dinner and program will be held in Bede Ballroom in the Student Center beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday evening. The inductees will also be recognized during half time of the football game on Saturday, September 27 which begins at 1 p.m. at Ed Widseth Field.
