(Crookston, Minn.)- Augustana College entered Ed Widseth Field today looking for redemption after a 27-14 loss to Emporia State on September 6. The Vikings did just that as they defeated the Golden Eagles 59-0 in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) game.

Augustana College put points on the board 10 different times during the game. The Vikings scored 22 points in the first quarter, 14 in the second quarter, 10 in the third quarter and 13 in the fourth quarter. Augustana earned 146 yards of penalties, but the offense wasn’t phased as the Vikings put up 601 yards of total offense in the game and averaged 7.3 yards per play.

The Golden Eagle offense was led by Cornelius King (WR, 5’5, 145, FR, Sebastian, Fla.) who caught four passes for 28 yards in the game. King returned two kickoffs for 15 yards on special teams. Tim Ennis (QB, 6’2, 205, SO, Lancaster, Calif.) was 8-17 passing for 63 yards. Travis Coulson (P, 6’3, 255, SR, Crescent City, Calif.), a 2007 NSIC All-Conference Honorable Mention player, punted eight times for 310 yards. He averaged 38.8 yards per punt with a long of 45 yards. Tom Melhorn (LB, 6’0, 205, JR, White Bear Lake, Minn.) led all defensive players with 11 total tackles (four solo, seven assisted). He had one tackle for a loss of five yards, a half of a sack and one interception.

Augustana was led in rushing and passing by Luke Butler. Butler rushed nine times for 82 yards. He averaged 9.1 yards per carry, rushed for a long of 35 yards and scored one touchdown. Through the air, he was 14-24 for 214 and two touchdowns. Butler’s favorite target was Tyler Schulte who grabbed five passes for 60 yards and two touchdowns. Kicker Ryan Grossman was 2-3 on field goals, hitting on 28 and 31 yard kicks. His 30 yard attempt in the fourth quarter was blocked by UMC’s Robel Woldu (DB, 5’10, 180, SR, Seattle, Wash.). Defensively, Chris Janisch led the Vikings with nine assisted tackles and two tackles for a loss of two yards.

The Golden Eagles are 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the NSIC, while the Vikings move to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the NSIC. UMC travels to Bismarck, N.D. on Saturday, September 20 to take on the University of Mary Marauders in an NSIC game.
