Golden Eagle Men’s Golf Finishes Ninth at NSIC Fall Championship

(Woodbury, Minn.)- The first of three tournaments to decide the 2008-09 NSIC Men’s Golf Championship took place on Sunday and Monday, September 14-15 at Eagle Valley Golf Course in Woodbury, Minn. St. Cloud State (295-294=589) holds a one stroke lead over Minnesota State (301-289=590) after the first of three tournaments. Minnesota State’s Jon Herzog shot back to back rounds of 71 to finish with a 142 and a three stroke lead over four other players. The second of three rounds of the NSIC Men’s Golf Championship will be September 29-30 with rounds of 36 and 18 at the Hastings C.C. in Hastings, Minn. The final event will be two rounds of 18 played April 12-13 at The Jewel in Lake City, Minn. A total of 126 holes will be used to determine the 2008-09 NSIC Men’s Golf Champions.
The Golden Eagle Men’s Golf team shot the second highest team score of 321 on the first day of the NSIC Fall Conference Championships to put the team in a big deficit. The Golden Eagles responded on the second day, shooting a 298 to move the team into ninth place on the weekend. Leading the way for UMC was Jared Miettunen (So, Virginia, Minn.) who shot a 153 (76-77) to tie for 31st place.
