(Moorhead, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston women’s volleyball opened the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) season with a road match against the MSU Moorhead Dragons at Alex Nemzek Hall. The Dragons used a .333 (43K-8E-105TA) team attack percentage to take the match victory in three sets, 25-11, 25-19, 25-21.

The Golden Eagles opened the match on their heals hitting a -.206 (4K-11E-34TA) attack percentage. The Dragons took advantage of UMC errors and needed just nine kills to take the first set. The Golden Eagles responded in games two and three with 13 and 11 kills in each set. However, the Dragons bettered UMC’s comeback with 17 kills in each of the last two sets.

Danielle Rueter (OH, 5’9, FR, Burlington, Wis.) and Amber Meyer (OH, 6’2, SO, Paxton, Neb.) led the Golden Eagles in tonight’s match. Both players had a team high seven kills. Ashley Allen (OH, 6’0, JR, Buffalo, Minn.) followed Rueter and Meyer offensively with six kills. Cassie Yates (S, 5’10, SR, Buffalo, Minn.) assisted on 18 of the Golden Eagle’s 28 kills and led all defenders with 12 defensive digs in the match.

The Dragon’s were led by Megan Norling’s 10 kills. Cathy Turner led all attackers with a .500 (8K-1E-14TA) attack percentage in the match. Leigh Splittstoesser paced all setters in the match with 31 kill assists.

The Golden Eagles are 0-10 overall this season and 0-1 in the NSIC. MSU Moorhead moves to 7-6 overall and 1-0 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles host Minnesota Duluth and Bemidji State on September 19-20. Game times are set for 7 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday at Lysaker Gymnasium.
