(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston women’s volleyball team took to the court tonight at Lysaker Gymnasium against the #12 ranked University of Minnesota, Duluth. The match concluded after the Bulldogs defeated the Golden Eagles in the fourth set and took the match 3-1 (15-25, 21-25, 28-26, 16-25).

The Golden Eagles had outstanding offensive production tonight from Amber Meyer (OH, 6’2, SO, Paxton, Neb.) who recorded a season high16 kills to lead all attackers. She was also the UMC leader in attack percentage in the match at .235 (16K-8E-34TA). Cassie Yates (S, 5’10, SR, Buffalo, Minn.) and Kate Holmquist (S, 5’6, FR, Middleton, Wis.) split time at the setter position for the Golden Eagles and recorded 11 assists each. UMC recorded six (one solo, 10 assisted) team blocks in the match. Leading the way at the net was Allison Zajicek (MH, 6’0, SR, Beatrice, Neb.) who assisted on three blocks.

Minnesota Duluth used strong net play to help their sluggish .129 (47K-30E-132TA) team attack percentage. The Bulldogs recorded 14 (28 assisted) total team blocks in the match. The Bulldogs were led offensively by Hannah Johnson’s 12 kills, three service aces and 12 defensive digs. Setter Katie Gangelhoff dished out 39 assists and assisted the offense with a .455 (6K-1E-11TA) attack percentage in the match. Lindsey Clairmont made her presence known at the net as she recorded a match high nine block assists.

The Golden Eagles are now 0-11 overall and 0-2 in the NSIC, while the Bulldogs move to 10-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The University of Minnesota, Crookston return to Lysaker Gymnasium tomorrow night, Saturday, September 20 to take on Bemidji State University in NSIC play. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
