Golden Eagle Volleyball Continues Winning Ways on Homecoming, Defeating Huskies 3-2

(St. Cloud, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston volleyball team traveled to St. Cloud State on UMC’s homecoming to take on the Huskies. The Golden Eagles followed up a 20-16 football victory with a five set marathon that Minnesota, Crookston took 3-2 (16-25, 25-22, 16-25, 25-17, 16-14) to complete the Saturday sweep.

The Golden Eagles and the Huskies swapped wins through four sets with the UMC defense holding St. Cloud State to a .068 (9K-6E-44TA) attack percentage in the fifth set to take the match victory. Amber Meyer (OH, 6’2, SO, Paxton, Neb.) continues to make a name for herself in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) as she played a sensational game and led all attackers with 20 kills and a .432 (20K-1E-44TA) attack percentage in the match. Meyer leads the Golden Eagle offense on the season with 140 kills. Ashley Allen (OH, 6’0, JR, Buffalo, Minn.) continues her strong offensive play with 13 kills in the victory. Cassie Yates (S, 5’10, SR, Buffalo, Minn.) assisted on 39 of the 60 Golden Eagle kills. Defensively, Jaclyn Slepicka (LIB, 5’2, JR, Crystal Lake, Ill.) tied for the match high with 29 defensive digs.

The Huskies were led offensively by Alecia Lunde who was perfect in the match with 15 kills and no errors with a .600 (15K-0E-25TA) attack percentage. Following Lunde on the offensive side were Kayla Tschida who finished with 12 kills and Ashley Shields and Kristen Scott who finished with 10 kills a piece. Jennifer Waterman led all setters with 52 assists and added three block assists, while Andreana Pieper led all players with 29 defensive digs and four service aces.

The Golden Eagles move to 2-12 overall and 2-3 in the NSIC. The Huskies fall to 2-12 overall and 0-6 in conference play. The team goes back on the road next weekend to play Minnesota State and Southwest Minnesota State on Friday, October 3 and Saturday, October 4. Game times are set for 7 p.m. on Friday and 5 p.m. on Saturday.
