Sanders Ties for Second at Winona Collegiate Invite, Team Finishes Twelfth at NW Regional

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston men’s golf team traveled to the Oaks Golf Course in Hayfield, Minn. on September 27 to take part in the Winona State Collegiate Invite. The Golden Eagles then headed to Hastings, Minn. for the Northwest Regional on September 29-30.
The Winona State Collegiate Invite was a dual between WSU and UMC. The Warriors took the dual by six strokes 301 to 307 over the 18 holes. Jake Sanders (SO, Crookston, Minn.) led the Golden Eagles shooting a 75 (+3) to finish tied for second in the dual.

The Golden Eagles struggled on day one and two of the Northwest Regional but rebounded on day three to shoot the eighth lowest score of the day at 313. Jon Blazek (FR, Owatonna, Minn.) finished with a team best score of 231 (81-7-72) to finish in a tie for 13th place. Blazek’s score in the Regional moved him to 20th place in the NSIC Championship Standings (Individual).

The second of three tournaments to decide the 2008-09 NSIC Men’s Golf Championship took place on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 29-30 at the Hastings C.C. in Hastings, Minn. The second of three rounds consisted of rounds of 36 and 18 holes. The final event will be two rounds of 18 played April 12-13 at The Jewel in Lake City, Minn. A total of 126 holes will be used to determine the 2008-09 NSIC Men’s Golf Champions. After the first two tournaments St. Cloud State and Minnesota State are tied for the lead with 42 points. After each tournament points are award for where each team finishes multiplied by two. Danny Anderson of St. Cloud State is atop the leader board for individuals. Anderson has cumulated 210 points over the first two tournaments, a three point lead over Jesse Nelson of Bemidji State (207).
The Golden Eagles travel to the Concordia University Fall Invite at the Tartan Park Golf Club in Lake Elmo, Minn. on October 5-6. This is the final fall competition for the Golden Eagle Men’s Golf team.
