Cornelius King

(Bemidji, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Football team eclipsed their season high for passing yards by 123 yards and total yards by 152 yards in today’s game with the Bemidji State Beavers. The Golden Eagles dominated in several other statistical categories, but after 60 minutes of play, it was Bemidji State University prevailing 41-27 to retain possession of the Hubcap traveling trophy.
 
U of M, Crookston found the end-zone first in the game as the team marched 70-yards on 11 plays, capped off by a Tim Ennis (QB, 6-2, 205, SO, Lancaster, Calif.) 1-yard rush. The drive took 5:48 off the game clock and put the Golden Eagles up 7-0. The Beavers responded on the next drive moving the ball 54-yards on eight plays. Scoring six was Brandon Miles who caught a 6-yard pass from Derek Edholm. The Beavers would score again quickly with a big punt block by Aaron Roland at the UMC 15-yard line. Derek Edholm found Adam Berg for a 10-yard touchdown pass on a drive that took two plays and went 15-yards in 37 seconds. The Golden Eagles tied the score with 29 seconds in the half as Ennis hit Aaron Wall (WR, 6-5, 210, SO, New Orleans, La.) with a 30-yard touchdown strike to put the game at 14-14. Bemidji State capitalized in the final 25 seconds of the half as they drove the field 53-yards on four plays capped off by George Kadlec’s 25-yard reception from Edholm to put the Beavers up 21-14 at the half.
 
Bemidji State came out of the gates in the second half and put 20 unanswered points on the Golden Eagles to go up 41-14. Brandon Miles scored on a 42-yard run in the third quarter. Miles was followed by a 4-yard touchdown rush by Erick Newman and a 7-yard rush by Edholm in the fourth quarter. UMC’s Cornelius King (WR, 5-5, 145, FR, Sebastian, Fla.) caught his first two collegiate touchdowns in the fourth quarter. King took an Ennis pass 55-yards for a score at the 9:31 mark and followed that up with an 18-yard pass from Ennis with 25 seconds left in the game for a final score of 41-27.
 
King had a career day for the Golden Eagles, finishing with nine receptions for 163-yards and two touchdowns. Ennis was 19-37 for 325-yards and three touchdowns. The 325-yards passing surpassed his old season high by 176-yards. Cody Brekken (LB, 5-11, 170, SO, Crookston, Minn.) and Tayler Michels (DB, 6-6, 220, SR, Pelican Rapids, Minn.) led the Golden Eagle defense with seven total tackles and one pass break-up each.
 
Bemidji State was led offensively by Brandon Miles who rushed for 93-yards on 10 carries and one touchdown. Derek Edholm completed 12 passes for 153-yards and three touchdowns. Edholm’s main target was Adam Berg who caught five passes for 54-yards and one score.
 
The Golden Eagles are now 2-6 overall and 1-6 in the NSIC, while the Beavers move to 3-5 overall and 2-5 in the NSIC. UMC hosts Winona State on Saturday, October 25 at Ed Widseth Field.
