(Crookston, Minn.)- Lysaker Gymnasium on the University of Minnesota, Crookston campus was adorned in pink tonight as the Golden Eagles and the MSU Moorhead Dragons played in the “Dig for the Cure” match in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The score was tied nine times in the match but the Dragons stayed perfect, defeating the Golden Eagles 3-0 (24-26, 19-25, 23-25) for the second time this season.

Dominating offensively for the Golden Eagles was Amber Meyer (OH, 6-2, SO, Paxton, Neb.) who recorded an impressive 19 kills on the night to lead all attackers in the match. Meyer also led the Golden Eagles in attack percentage, hitting a solid .483 (19K-5E-29TA). Leading University of Minnesota, Crookston in assists was Cassie Yates (S, 5-10, SR, Buffalo, Minn.) with 34. She led the team in defensive digs with eight and added three assisted blocks. Allison Zajicek (MH, 6-0, SR, Beatrice, Neb.) recorded two service aces and three assisted blocks on the night.

The Dragons had solid offensive production from Cathy Turner who recorded 10 kills and Laura Tvrdik who had a team high 15 kills in the three sets. Tvrdik finished with a match high .667 (15K-1E-21TA) attack percentage and led all blockers with four assisted blocks. The Dragons as a team finished with 12 assisted blocks in the match. MSU Moorhead finished the match with a .330 (44K-12E-97TA) team attack percentage. Leigh Splittstoesser assisted on 36 kills and led all setters in the match. Libero Calla Oftedahl recorded a match high 11 digs for the Dragons.

The Golden Eagles fall to 3-17 overall and 3-8 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Dragons move to 11-12 overall and 5-6 in the NSIC. U of M, Crookston hits the road on Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25 to battle Upper Iowa and Winona State. Match time is set for 7 p.m. in Fayette, Iowa and 3 p.m. in Winona.
