Golden Eagle Women’s Soccer Team Wins Home Finale 4-0

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women’s Soccer team wanted their final home game of the 2008 season to be a memorable one for their outgoing seniors. The Golden Eagles made sure that happened as they took care of business with a 4-0 shut-out victory over Wayne State College today in Crookston, Minn. in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) action.
In an extremely cold and blustery day, U of M, Crookston was not to be denied. Justine Jones (Jr, Fwd/Mid, Richland, Wash.) scored at 20:00 of the game off an assist from Alysia Lucero (So, Def, Albuquerque, N.M.) to put the Golden Eagles up 1-0. The second half was all U of M, Crookston as they scored three goals. Kelsey Palmer (So, Fwd, Crookston, Minn.) scored off an assist from Jones at 46:48. At 49:18, Jones made the score 3-0 off an assist from senior Alyssa Jensen (Sr, Fwd/Mid/Def, Rice Lake, Wis.). Megan Gibeault (So, Fwd, Green Bay, Wis.) closed out the scoring at 62:36 with an unassisted goal to give the Golden Eagles the 4-0 victory.
U of M, Crookston’s goaltending was stellar. Anna Ogaard (So, GK, Maple Grove, Minn.) and Leyla Castillo (So, GK, Miami, Fla.) combined on the shut-out recording one and two saves respectively.
Wayne State College falls to 1-16-1 overall and 1-10-0 in the NSIC. The University of Minnesota, Crookston improves to 3-14-1 overall and 2-9-0 in the NSIC.
The Golden Eagles close out the regular season on Saturday, November 1 and Sunday, November 2 when they travel to Minnesota State University, Mankato and Southwest Minnesota State University respectively. Both NSIC games start at 1 p.m.
