Bethel University Nips Golden Eagles 2-1 in Men’s Hockey Opener

(Crookston, Minn.)- Bethel University took a 2-0 lead after two periods and withheld a furious rally by the University of Minnesota, Crookston on their way to a 2-1 non-conference victory tonight at the Crookston Civic Arena. It was the season opener for both teams.

 

The Royals got on the board first at 3:01 of the first period when Christian Fogerty scored a power play goal. He was assisted by Brad Peterson and Kent Bostrom. Bethel University widened the gap at 17:47 of the second period when Austin Hatch scored an even-strength goal. He was assisted by Bostrom and Peterson. The Golden Eagles got on the board at 5:51 of the third period when Jonathan Frank (Fr, Def, Wallingford, Conn.) scored a power play goal. He was assisted by Nigel Smith (Fr, Fwd, White Rock, B.C.) and Parker Harrison (Fr, Fwd, Waxahachie, Texas). The goal was the only one U of M, Crookston could muster despite outshooting the Royals 40-26.

 

Aaron Damjanovic had 39 saves for Bethel University. Jacob Shira (Fr, G, Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) had 24 saves for the Golden Eagles. The Royals are now 1-0-0 on the season while U of M, Crookston is 0-1-0.

 

Both teams will return to action on Saturday, November 1. The puck drops at 2 p.m. at the Crookston Civic Arena.
