Bethel University Holds On for 4-2 Victory Over Golden Eagle Men’s Hockey Team

(Crookston, Minn.)- Bethel University took a 3-0 lead and withstood a furious rally by the University of Minnesota, Crookston on their way to a 4-2 non-conference victory over the Golden Eagles today at the Crookston Civic Arena.

 

After a scoreless first period, the Royals got on the board 20 seconds into the second period when Chris Fiala scored an even-strength goal off an assist from Brad Peterson. Bethel University widened the gap at 8:20 with another even strength goal. This time it was Drew Dammen scoring off an assist from Christian Fogerty.

 

The third period provided plenty of fireworks for both squads. The Royals went up 3-0 when Reed Zweber scored an even-strength goal of the unassisted variety at 3:24. U of M, Crookston finally countered when Martin Husicka (So, Fwd, Vsetin, Czech Republic) scored an even-strength goal at 16:24. He was assisted by Brent Swanson (Jr, Fwd, Mason City, Iowa). The Golden Eagles pulled their goaltender and used an extra attacker as Derek Ricke (Fr, Def, Park Rapids, Minn.) found the back of the Bethel University net at 18:24 to cut the lead to 3-2. He was assisted by Nigel Smith (Fr, Fwd, White Rock, B.C.). However, it was not to be for U of M, Crookston as Brad Peterson scored an empty-net goal for the Royals at 18:54. He was assisted by Kent Bostrom and Chris Fiala.

 

Aaron Damjanovic had 36 saves for Bethel University. Bryan Dalbec (Fr, G, Superior, Wis.) stopped 34 shots for U of M, Crookston.

 

The Royals improve to 2-0-0 on the season. The Golden Eagles fall to 0-2-0.

The University of Minnesota, Crookston will return to action on Friday, November 7 and Saturday, November 8 at the Crookston Civic Arena when they open the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA) season with a two-game series against the Milwaukee School of Engineering. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday.
