Golden Eagles Fall to #8 Mustangs 3-0 in Final Home Game of 2008 Season

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) took on Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) tonight in UMC’s final home game of the 2008 season. SMSU closed out the game in three sets 25-19, 25-19, 2-18 (3-0) to take the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) victory.
 
Amber Meyer (OH, 6-2, SO, Paxton, Neb.) led the Golden Eagles offensively tonight with 11 kills. She has led UMC in kills in the previous nine matches. Putting up impressive attack percentages for the University of Minnesota, Crookston were Katie Bonine (OH, 5-10, SO, Cottage Grove, Minn.) with a .455 (5K-0E-11TA) attack percentage and Andrea Hubbell (MH, 6-1, SO, Isle, Minn.) with a solid attack percentage of .500 (5K-1E-8TA). Doing all of the setting tonight for the Golden Eagles was Cassie Yates (S, 5-10, SR, Buffalo, Minn.) who recorded 28 assists in the game. Leading the team in the defensive dig category was Jaclyn Slepicka (LIB, 5-2, JR, Crystal Lake, Ill.) with nine.
 
Kasey Loeslie led SMSU and all attackers with 12 kills in the match and a .500 (12K-3E-18TA) attack percentage. Devin Diedrich was the only other Mustang in double-digits kills with 11. She added three block assists on the night in a well balanced game. Sara Graf led all setters with 38 assists for SMSU. Defensively, Sarah Quiram led all players with 14 defensive digs. As a team, Southwest Minnesota State had ten service aces, led by Lauren Swain who finished the match with three.
 
The Golden Eagles are now 6-21 overall and 6-12 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Mustang’s move to 25-5 overall and 14-4 in the NSIC. Minnesota, Crookston closes out the 2008 season on Friday, November 14 and Saturday, November 15 against Wayne State College and Augustana College. Game times are set for 7 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively.
