#23 Wayne State Defeats Golden Eagles 3-0 in Wayne, Neb.

(Wayne, Neb.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) took on the #23 ranked Wayne State (WSC) Wildcats tonight in Wayne, Neb. Wayne State held Minnesota, Crookston to a .073 (28K-21E-96TA) attack percentage in the 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-19) Northern Sun victory.
The Golden Eagles struggled offensively, managing just three leads in the match. The Nebraska duo of Allison Zajicek (MH, 6-0, SR, Beatrice, Neb.) and Amber Meyer (OH, 6-2, SO, Paxton, Neb.) led UMC with seven kills and three block assists in the match. Cassie Yates (S, 5-10, SR, Buffalo, Minn.) recorded 23 assists, two kills, one service ace and one block assist on the night. Heather Foreman (OH, 5-10, SR, Brandon, Manitoba) led the team with nine defensive digs. The Golden Eagles as a team recorded six (12 assisted blocks) total blocks in the match.
Jennifer Hefner and Brittany Van Beek led the Wildcat offense with 10 kills each. Hefner led all players with five assisted blocks while Van Beek led all players with 11 defensive digs. Diedre Artz led all setters with 33 assists.
The Golden Eagles are now 6-22 overall and 6-13 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), while the Wildcat’s move to 23-8 overall and 12-7 in the NSIC. Minnesota, Crookston closes out the 2008 season tomorrow at Augustana College. Game time is set for 4 p.m. in Sioux Falls, S.D.
