Wayne State Upends Golden Eagles 60-47 at St. Cloud Hoopster Classic

(St. Cloud, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Men’s Basketball team opened the 2008-09 season today at the Radisson Suite Hotel / St. Cloud Hoopster Classic in St. Cloud, Minn. The Golden Eagles took on Wayne State College (WSC) in non-conference action. The Wildcats built up a 20-point halftime lead and never looked back as they took the 13-point victory 60-47. Minnesota, Crookston’s Nic Schulwitz (G/F, 6-4, 215, SO, Berlin, Germany) had a perfect night, shooting 100 percent from the field and free-throw line. He went 5-5 from the field, 1-1 from long range and 2-2 from the free-throw line for a team high 13 points. Schulwitz led the team in rebounds with four (three offensive, one defensive). Bryce Cummings (G, 6-2, 185, JR, Mukwonago, Wis.), Delano Robinson (G, 6-2, 190, JR, Bloomington, Ill.) and Bruce Felts (F, 6-10, 220, SR, Bemidji, Minn.) each scored seven points for the Golden Eagles in the loss. Wayne State was led by Brian Metz who went 5-6 from the field and 7-8 from the free-throw line for 17 points. He tallied a double-double in the game with 10 (four offensive, six defensive) rebounds. Jonathon Thomas also recorded a double-double on the night scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 (four offensive, six defensive) rebounds. WSC’s Cory Humphries lead all players with three steals in 12 minutes of play. The Golden Eagles are 0-1 overall on the season while Wayne State opens at 1-0 overall.
