Golden Eagles Break Rebound Record in 111-47 Victory over Crown College

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Women’s Basketball team returned to Lysaker Gymnasium this afternoon to take on the Crown College Storm. The Golden Eagles used a team record 62 rebounds (59 vs. Winona State on 2/10/2001) to take the 111-47 non-conference victory.
 
U of M, Crookston opened the first half shooting 50 percent (25-50) from the field. UMC out-rebounded the Storm 32 (16 offensive, 16 defensive) to 14 (4 offensive, 10 defensive) in the half as well and scored 16 second chance points. Defensively, the Golden Eagles had 17 steals and converted those into 31 points to take a 61-22 halftime lead. UMC finished the game with 76 points in the paint, 51 points off of turnovers, 30 second chance points, 60 points from the bench and out-rebounded the Storm 62-33.
 
The Golden Eagles finished the game with five players scoring in double-digits. Leading the way was Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) who scored 18 points and dished three assists in 17 minutes of play. Diana Taddy (G, 5-8, SO, Two Rivers, Wis.), Jenna Dolence (G, 5-8, SO, Moorhead, Minn.) and Kim Grant (C, 6-2, SO, Minneapolis, Minn.) scored 13 points each. The 13 points was a career high for Dolence and Grant. Taddy and Grant each added five assists, good for another career high for Grant. Freshman Megan Eul (F, 5-11, FR, Rosemount, Minn.) rounded out the top scorers with 10 points and five steals. Ana Garcia (G, 5-7, SO, Minnetonka, Minn.) set a career best in the game with six assists to lead the team. Contributing to the record breaking 62 rebounds was Lauren Kessler (C, 6-1, FR, Albertville, Minn.) who led all players with nine rebounds (4 offensive, 5 defensive). Kessler added two blocked shots in the contest as well. Following Kessler closely on the boards was Grant who set a career high with eight (4 offensive, 4 defensive) and Dolence who recorded a career high seven (3 offensive, 4 defensive).
 
Crown College was led by Mary Devries who scored a game-high 19 points and added a team high seven rebounds. Devries shot just 4-13 from the field but was an outstanding 11-12 from the free-throw line. Joy Murry followed Devries with nine points.
 
The University of Minnesota, Crookston is 2-0 on the season while Crown College falls to 0-3 overall. The Golden Eagles hit the road and play at Valley City State on Tuesday, November 25. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
