Golden Eagles Earn First Victory of the Season 59-45 over Minnesota Morris

(Morris, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Men’s Basketball team traveled to Morris, Minn. today to take on the Cougars in a non-conference game. The Golden Eagles took advantage of Cougar turnovers and played tough in the paint to take the 59-45 victory. U of M, Crookston pressured the Cougars into 22 turnovers in the game. UMC used the Morris miscues to score 22 points on turnovers. The Golden Eagles also played strong down-low, scoring 22 points in the paint while holding the Cougars to just 14 points in the paint. Minnesota, Crookston was led by Akeem Cubie (G, 6-5, 180, SO, Minneapolis, Minn.) who scored 12 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked two shots on the night. Cubie was followed closely by Matt Heier (G, 6-2, 175, JR, Ray, N.D.) who came off the bench and scored 11 points and stole two Morris passes. Matt Pelzer (G, 6-4, 190, SR, St. Cloud, Minn.) led all players in rebounds, finishing the game with 10 while adding five points, two assists and two steals. Morris was led by Eric Dalbey who led all scorers with 14 points. Mitch Primus led the Cougars with six defensive rebounds. He added five points and blocked two Golden Eagle shots. The Golden Eagles are 1-2 overall on the season while Morris falls to 0-2 overall. UMC travels to Mayville, N.D. on Tuesday, November 25 to take on the Comets.
