Golden Eagle Western Team

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Western Equestrian team continued their successful season this past Saturday and Sunday at North Dakota State University.  On Saturday, Amanda Peterson (Jr, Rochester, Minn.) was the Reserve High Point Rider for the day. Ashley Copa (So, Fargo, N.D.), Mindy Nieuwboer, (So, Kenneth, Minn.), and Amanda Gozel (Fr, Shoreview, Minn.) all took second place in their respective classes. Mary Hurley (So, Grand Meadow, Minn.) placed second in her class pointing up and qualifying her for the Regional Competition in River Falls, Wis. on March 1. 

 

On Sunday, Amanda Peterson again took Reserve High Point Rider honors and helped boost the team to the High Point Championship for the Sunday show. Tandra Klein (So, Hazen, Minn.), Becky Rhodus (So, Kansas City, Missouri) and Melissa Zanotelli (Fr, Marshfield, Wis.) all won their respective classes for the day. Turning in second place finishes were Elsa Lunden (So, Annandale, Minn.), Jackie Nikkel (So, Lundar, Manitoba) and Gozel. 

 

“There were a lot of great rides this past weekend and we have several riders that are getting close to qualifying for the Regional Competition,” says Golden Eagle Western Coach Nicky Overgaard. “This was a great way to end our fall show schedule and we are looking forward to starting back again in January.” 

 

The Golden Eagle Western team will start spring semester with a home competition on February 7-8, 2009. Events will get underway at 1 p.m. and 9 a.m. respectively at the University Teaching and Outreach Center (UTOC).
