Comets Use Big First Half to Down Golden Eagles 73-64

(Mayville, N.D.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Men’s Basketball team traveled to Mayville, N.D. on Tuesday, November 25 to take on the Comets of Mayville State University in non-conference action. The Comets scored 41 first half points to aid in the 73-64 home court victory. Freshman Derik Hawkey (G, 6-2, 190, FR, Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) took his turn leading the Golden Eagles. Hawkey came off the bench and scored 13 points, shooting 4-8 from the field and 5-6 from the free-throw line in 23 minutes of play. Bryce Cummings (G, 6-2, 185, JR, Mukwonago, Wis.) was 2-2 from long range in an 11 point effort. Matt Pelzer (G, 6-4, 190, SR, St. Cloud, Minn.) closed out the top UMC scorers with 10 points and four rebounds. Mayville’s Bo Harrison led all scorers with 18 points, shooting 8-13 from the field and grabbing a game high nine rebounds. Anton Coleman scored 12 points and Rajwayne Palmer added 11 points for the Comets. John Sanchez scored all of his points from the charity stripe going 10-12 for 10 points and five assists. The Golden Eagles are 1-3 overall on the season while Mayville improves to 2-4 overall. The Golden Eagles open NSIC play on December 5 and 6 when they host Minnesota Duluth and Bemidji State. Game times are set for 8 p.m. both nights. The F-M Acro team will be performing at halftime of the men’s game on December 6. Bring the entire family out for an exciting night.
