(Bismarck, N.D.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Women’s Basketball team closed out the University of Mary Classic against Colorado School of Mines (CSM). Despite being outscored 22-2 in second chance points, the Golden Eagles outscored the Orediggers 23-12 in points off turnovers to secure the non-conference victory 72-65.
 
The score was tied 10 times in the seesaw battle. Both teams started slow shooting just over 30% in the first half. UMC exploded in the second half, shooting 65% from the field while holding the Orediggers to 36% to offset being outrebounded 46-30 in the game.
 
Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, SO, Northfield, Minn.) led the Golden Eagles offensively for the first time this season. Zabel scored a game high 19 points shooting 6-7 from the field and the free-throw line. Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) followed Zabel with 18 points. She shot 7-11 from the floor and 3-5 from long range. Zelinsky and Gina Jaroszewski (F, 5-11, SO, Moorhead, Minn.) both grabbed five rebounds to lead the team.
 
Colorado School of Mines was led by Emily Dalton who scored 18 points. She was followed by Katie Carty’s 14 points. Brecca Gaffney had a huge night on the boards, grabbing a game high 15.
 
The University of Minnesota, Crookston is 3-2 on the season while Colorado School of Mines drops to 1-4 overall. The Golden Eagles open NSIC play on December 5 and 6 when they host Minnesota Duluth and Bemidji State. Game times are set for 6 p.m. both nights. The F-M Acro team will be performing at halftime of the men’s game on December 6. Bring the entire family out for an exciting night.
