Finlandia University Drops Golden Eagles 5-2

(Crookston, Minn.) – Finlandia University scored two goals in the second period and added three more in the third on their way to a 5-2 victory over the University of Minnesota, Crookston in Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA) action tonight at the Crookston Civic Arena.
 

The Golden Eagles opened the scoring at 4:33 of the second period when Jake Delisle (So, Def Grand Forks, N.D.) scored a power play goal off assists from Jonathan Frank (Fr, Def, Wallingford, Conn.) and Brent Swanson (Jr, Fwd, Mason City, Iowa). Finlandia University tied the game at 5:16 when James Brey scored an even-strength goal at 5:16 off assists from Dan Grille and Charlie Benik. The Lions took a 2-1 lead at 8:01 of the second period when James Neitsch scored an even-strength goal off assists from Eric Shultz and Quinn McIntosh.

 

Finlandia University widened their lead to 3-1 when Grille scored an even-strength goal 21 seconds into the third period off assists from Benik and Brey. U of M, Crookston closed the gap to 3-2 when Chase Haubursin (Fr, Fwd, Santa Rosa, Cal.) scored an even-strength goal off an assist from Matthew Justice (So, Fwd, Parker, Colo.) at 2:02 of the third. The Lions countered at 4:44 with an even-strength goal from Brey who was assisted by Benik. Finlandia University closed out the scoring at 14:43 of the third period when Brey recorded the hat-trick with a power play goal after the Golden Eagles took a major penalty. He was assisted by Matt Wylie and McIntosh.

 

Ryan Donovan recorded 28 saves for the Lions while Jacob Schira (Fr, G, Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) recorded 27 for U of M, Crookston.

 

Finlandia University improves to 5-4-0 overall and 5-2-0 in the MCHA. The Golden Eagles fall to 1-9-0 overall and 1-6-0 in the MCHA. The two teams will return to action tomorrow at 3 p.m. (CST) at the Crookston Civic Arena.
