Bulldogs Bury Shot with Three Seconds Left to Defeat Golden Eagles 58-56

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Men’s Basketball team battled the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) down to the wire tonight in the Golden Eagle’s NSIC home opener at Lysaker Gymnasium. The heartbreaker for UMC came with 3.2 seconds remaining in regulation when UMD’s Ron White hit a jumper to solidify the teams 58-56 victory. UMC went down six points early but came back and led by as many as 10 points in the first half. The Golden Eagles took a 29-24 advantage into the break. Duluth battled back in the second half to take the lead late. UMC’s Delano Robinson (G, 6-2, 190, JR, Bloomington, Ill.) hit a jumper with 28 seconds left to tie the game at 56. The shot would quickly be forgotten as Duluth came back down the court and gave the ball to White who hit the unassisted jumper to end the game. Adam Hendricks (F, 6-7, 225, SO, Watertown, Minn.) played a strong 24 minutes tonight. He was 6-12 from the floor and scored a career high 12 points to lead the Golden Eagles offensively. Bryce Cummings (G, 6-2, 185, JR, Mukwonago, Wis.) tied a game-high with five assists and scored nine points. Bruce Felts (F, 6-10, 220, SR, Bemidji, Minn.) led all players with three blocked shots for the second game in a row, tying his career high. He added six rebounds on the defensive side of the ball and tallied six points on the night. Duluth was led by John Vaudreuil’s game-high 18 points. Brian Sykora scored 13 second half points for a total of 17 points. He grabbed 10 rebounds, seven in the second half, for the only double-double of the game. The Bulldogs rounded out their top scorers with Ron White who scored 13 points, dished five assists and grabbed eight rebounds. The University of Minnesota, Crookston is 2-5 overall and 0-1 in NSIC play, while the Bulldogs advance to 6-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Golden Eagles return to Lysaker Gymnasium tomorrow night to host NSIC foe Bemidji State University. Game time is set for 8 p.m. The F-M Acro team will be performing at halftime of the men’s game tomorrow night. Bring the entire family out for an exciting night.
