Second Half Shooting Woes Lift Beavers Past Golden Eagles 67-57

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Men’s Basketball team hosted the Bemidji State Beavers tonight at Lysaker Gymnasium. UMC played a solid first half, but for the second night in a row, the team let the game slip in the second half with the Beavers coming from behind to take the 67-57 victory. Bemidji State took a nine point lead, their largest of the first half at the 12:37 mark. Minnesota, Crookston went on a 21-9 run to close out the half and took their largest lead of six points with 31 second to go before the break. At the half, it was UMC holding a 32-28 lead. The Golden Eagles scored early in the second half to go up by eight points. That basket would be one of only five made in the half as UMC shot 20% (5-25) from the field down the stretch. At the 4:04 BSU tied the game at 55 and went on a 12-2 run to earn the 67-57 victory. Adam Hendricks (F, 6-7, 225, SO, Watertown, Minn.) led the Golden Eagles for the second straight night, scoring a career high 16 points, shooting 5-9 from the field and 6-6 from the free-throw line. Derik Hawkey (G, 6-2, 190, FR, Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) added 11 points, two steals and one blocked shot in 21 minutes of play. Nic Schulwitz (G/F, 6-4, 215, SO, Berlin, Germany) led all players with a season high 11 rebounds. Bemidji State was lifted to the NSIC victory by their bench. The team was led by Jimmy Johnson’s 16 points. Johnson shot 5-6 from the field and 6-9 from the line. He was followed by Jake Lindstrom’s 13 points and Brady Fairbanks’ 11 points. The only started that scored in double-digits was Sergej Baskow who scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Seth Haake and James Gibson led the Beavers defensively with eight rebounds each. The University of Minnesota, Crookston is 2-6 overall and 0-2 in NSIC play. The Beavers advance to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The Golden Eagles travel to Concordia University- St. Paul and St. Cloud State on Friday, December 13 and Saturday, December 13. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. both nights.
