(St. Paul, Minn.)- The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) announced today that Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, SO, Northfield, Minn.) has been named the NSIC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Zabel earned the recognition for her conference play on Friday, December 5 against Minnesota Duluth and Saturday, December 6 against Bemidji State University.
 
 Zabel averaged a double-double last weekend and helped the Golden Eagles to a 2-0 NSIC start with wins over Minnesota Duluth and Bemidji State. It is the first time since the 2004-05 season that Minnesota, Crookston has started the conference season 2-0. Zabel was the spark that ignited the Golden Eagles against the Bulldogs. Zabel scored 11 of her game-high 17 points in the first half and was instrumental in the 14-5 run to close out the first half. Through the first 20 minutes of play, she was 3-6 from the floor and 5-5 at the free-throw line. Zabel played big on the glass, picking up 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season in just under 40 minutes of play. She rallied the Golden Eagles the following night against Bemidji State. Zabel scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the first half to help the team to a 37-32 halftime lead. Zabel returned to the court in the second half to score 17 more points for a season and career high 30 points. Kari Score was the last UMC player to score 30 or more points (1/14/06 vs. MSU Moorhead). She shot 8-14 from the field, 1-1 from long range and 13-14 from the free-throw line, tying a University of Minnesota, Crookston single game record in free-throws made. Defensively, she grabbed 10 rebounds for her second straight double-double and has led the team in scoring for three straight games. On the weekend, Zabel averaged 23.5 points/game, 10.5 rebounds/game and 36 minutes/game. She was 14-27 from the field and 18-19 from the free-throw line (94%).
 
Zabel is currently ranked fourth in the NSIC in points (121) and points per game (17.3).
