UW-Stevens Point Overpowers Golden Eagles

(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Wisconsin Stevens Point opened a 6-1 lead after two periods and exploded for seven goals in the third on their way to a 13-1 non-conference victory over the University of Minnesota, Crookston Friday night in Stevens Point, Wis.
The Pointers were led by Jon Madden’s hat-trick. He also added two assists. Travis Erstad also added a hat-trick and an assist. Harrison Niemann and Luke Nesper each added a goal and three assists while Russell Law and Tim Manthey each added a goal and two assists. Creighton Scarpone and Matt Stendahl added a goal and an assist for UW-Stevens Point.
U of M, Crookston’s lone goal was scored in power play fashion at 19:52 of the second period by John Lombardi (Jr, Fwd, Burnsville, Minn.). He was assisted by Spencer Syverstson (So, Def, Wasilla, Alaska) and Martin Husicka (So, Fwd, Vsetin, Czech Republic).
The Pointers improve to 9-5-0 while the Golden Eagles fall to 1-13-0. U of M, Crookston returns to action on Saturday, January 3 when they travel to UW-Eau Claire for a non-conference contest. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
