(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston put forth a solid effort. However, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire proved too much as the Blugolds captured a 5-1 non-conference men’s hockey victory Saturday night in Eau Claire, Wis.

UW-Eau-Claire opened up a 1-0 lead after one period when Sean Garrity scored an even-strength goal at 7:10. The Blugolds made the score 2-0 at 4:00 of the second period when Joe Bluhm scored an even-strength goal. UW-Eau Claire increased their lead to 3-0 at 14:46 when Dan Fina scored a short-handed goal. The Golden Eagles got on the board at 19:32 when Jonathan Frank (Fr, Def, Wallingford, Conn.) scored a power play goal. He was assisted by Matt Marchel (Jr, Def, Grand Forks, N.D.) and Martin Husicka (So, Fwd, Vsetin, Czech Republic). Unfortunately, that was as close as U of M, Crookston would get as UW-Eau Claire added an even-strength goal from Andrew Johnson at 4:58 of the third period and an empty-net goal from D.J. Clark at 19:17.

UW-Eau Claire improves to 10-5-0. The Golden Eagles fall to 1-14-0.

U of M, Crookston return to action on Friday, January 9 and Saturday, January 10 when they play host to Northland College in a pair of Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA) action. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. respectively.
