(Crookston, Minn.)- University of Minnesota, Crookston Men’s Hockey player Nigel Smith (Fr, Fwd, White Rock, British Columbia) has been named Freshman of the Week by the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA).
Smith scored two goals and added an assist for three points on the weekend as the Golden Eagles swept Northland College. In Friday’s 4-2 victory, he scored an even-strength goal. Smith added a goal and an assist in Saturday’s 9-3 victory. He recorded 10 shots on goal on the weekend. He has scored three goals and added four assists for seven points this season.
Smith is a business (entrepreneurship and small business management) major at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. He is the son of Doug and Anita Smith of White Rock, British Columbia.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, January 16 and Saturday, January 17 when they travel to Adrian College in Adrian, Mich. for an MCHA series. The puck drops at 7 p.m. (EST) and 3 p.m. (EST) respectively.
