(Fayette, Iowa.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Women’s Basketball team made the long trip to Upper Iowa University (UIU) worthwhile tonight as UMC returned to the win column. The Golden Eagles defeated the Peacocks 60-54 in front of 300 UIU fans.

The long bus ride didn’t affect the Golden Eagles as the team came out and took an early 7-2 lead. The Peacocks found their stride and took a 10-9 lead five minutes into the action. A big 7-0 UMC run that took three minutes off the game clock put some distance between the teams and took the wind out of the Peacock’s sails. Four of Minnesota, Crookston's final six points of the first half came at the charity stripe. The Golden Eagles were 8-8 at the free throw line, while the Peacocks struggled with their free opportunities going just 3-13 at the line. The Golden Eagle pressure defense forced 10 turnovers that the team translated into 16 points. That difference helped UMC to a 32-21 halftime lead. Minnesota, Crookston extended the lead to 12 points at the 11:38 mark of the second half. The Peacocks outscored the Golden Eagles in the second half 33-28 but it wasn’t enough as UMC took the 60-54 NSIC victory.
