Warriors Use Strong First Half to Defeat Golden Eagles 84-59

(Winona, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Women’s Basketball team returned to the court on Saturday night looking for the weekend NSIC sweep against Winona State (WSU) after defeating Upper Iowa on Friday evening. The Warriors opened the game with 19 shots made including six three-pointers to take and hold the lead in the 85-59 victory.

The University of Minnesota, Crookston was led by Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) who scored 15 points in 27 minutes of play. She was 7-12 from the field and dished a team high three assists. Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, SO, Northfield, MN) tallied 10 points on 3-7 shooting in 25 minutes of play.

The Warriors were led by Natalie Gigler who scored a game-high 28 points in 21 minutes of play. She was 12-18 from the field and 4-4 from the free-throw line. Jenny Steffen and Ana Wurtz followed Gigler with 14 and 10 points respectively.

The University of Minnesota, Crookston moves to 8-10 overall and 4-7 in the NSIC. Winona State advances to 14-5 overall and 7-5 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles return to Lysaker Gymnasium on January 30 and 31 to host the University of Mary and Northern State. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. on both nights.
