(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Western Equestrian team will host a home competition on Saturday, February 7 and Sunday, February 8 at the University Teaching and Outreach Center (UTOC) on the U of M, Crookston Campus. Saturday’s show will start at 1 p.m. while Sunday’s will begin at 9 a.m. A total of ten teams will take part in the event.

 

The Golden Eagles have had an outstanding season so far and Coach Nicky Overgaard is excited about hosting a show as well as her team’s chances for continued success. “We are looking forward to having the home field advantage for our upcoming show on February 7 and 8,” says Coach Overgaard.  “Riding our own horses in our own facility increases our riders’ confidence levels and hopefully that will translate into higher placings.”

The Golden Eagle Western Equestrian team is currently standing in first place in the region with four critical shows remaining. Becky Rhodus (So, Kansas City, Missouri), Sarah Nowacki (Jr, Stephen, Minn.) and Mary Hurley (So, Grand Meadow, Minn.) qualified for the Regional Competition hosted by UW-River Falls on March 1.  U of M, Crookston has five more riders in the running to get qualified in the last four shows.

Other teams competing include Ellsworth Community College, North Dakota State University, Rochester Community and Technical College, South Dakota State University, Southeast Community College, St. Cloud State University, the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

 

The public is invited and admission is free.
