Bemidji State University Sweeps Golden Eagles by 10-1 & 11-5 Scores

(Crookston, Minn.) – Bemidji State University pounded out 21 runs on 25 hits as they swept the University of Minnesota, Crookston 10-1 and 11-5 in a pair of non-conference baseball games Friday, February 6 at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn.

 

Game One Recap

 

A five-run first inning propelled the Beavers to the 10-1 victory. Ryan Bohanan and Alex Messick each had two hits and two RBI for Bemidji State University. Bohannan had a triple and Messick had a double. Josh Juntunen added a hit and an RBI. Ethan Branum threw four innings surrendering one run (earned) on four hits to get the win. He struck out two and walked two. Devin Croal (Fr, IF, Coon Rapids, Minn.) had two hits for the Golden Eagles while Teddy Gutman (Jr, IF, Burlington, Iowa) added a double. Jordan Triestram (Jr, RHP/1B, Shakopee, Minn.) took the loss surrendering eight runs (all earned) on seven hits over 3.1 innings. He struck out three and walked four.

 

Game Two Recap

 

With the score 3-1 in the fourth inning, the Beavers put a five spot on the board to take an 8-1 lead. U of M, Crookston would not go away though as the Golden Eagles added two runs in each of the next two innings to cut the deficit to 8-5. Bemidji State University responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth to close out the game with an 11-5 score. Paul Krebs (Sr, RHP/OF, Little Falls, Minn.), Jake Poehler (So, OF, Coon Rapids, Minn.) and Croal each had a hit and an RBI. Kayle Lewellen (Sr, IF, Forest Lake, Minn.) hit a double for U of M, Crookston. The Beavers were led by Bohannan who had three hits, including a triple, and an RBI. Justin Huether added two hits and an RBI. Colton Smith added a double and four RBI. Josh Silvernagel threw four innings surrendering one run (earned) on two hits. He struck out five and walked two. Alex Gregor (So, RHP, Shakopee, Minn.) took the loss for the Golden Eagles.

 

Bemidji State University improves to 3-1 while U of M, Crookston falls to 0-4. The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, March 4 at 6:30 a.m. when they play the University of Wisconsin-Stout in a non-conference doubleheader at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.
