Finlandia University Tops U of M, Crookston by 7-1 Score

(Crookston, Minn.) – Finlandia University broke open a 1-1 game by scoring three goals in each of the final two periods on their way to a 7-1 victory over the University of Minnesota, Crookston in Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA) action Friday night in Hancock, Mich.

 

The Golden Eagles got on the board first when Matt Marchel (Jr, Def, Grand Forks, N.D.) scored an unassisted, even-strength goal at 7:17 of the first period to put U of M, Crookston up 1-0. Finlandia University countered 11:28 of the first period when Corey Blake scored a power play goal. This would be the first of seven consecutive goals for the Lions.

 

Charlie Benik scored two goals and added an assist. Blake Miller scored two goals while Quinn McIntosh scored a goal and added three assists. Blake also added an assist.

 

The Golden Eagles fall to 3-19-0 overall and 3-14-0 in the MCHA. Finlandia University improves to 8-10-2 overall and 8-7-2 in the MCHA. The two teams resume action on Saturday, February 7 at 3:15 p.m. (EST).
