UMC SAAC to Host Fundraiser for Crookston Area Special Olympics

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota Crookston’s (UMC) Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) is sponsoring a fundraiser for the Crookston Area Special Olympics basketball team on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. in Lysaker Gymnasium on the Crookston campus. All proceeds raised will go towards the Crookston Area Special Olympics.
There will be three 15-minute basketball games played during the event. In the first game, the Crookston Area Special Olympics basketball team will face a team of UMC students and student- athletes. In the second game, the Crookston Area Special Olympics basketball team faces the UMC athletic coaches. The third game will feature Crookston community members against the Crookston Area Special Olympics team. There will be promotional games and giveaways throughout the duration of the event including a dunk contest put on by the UMC men’s basketball team.
“This is a great event for The Crookston Special Olympic basketball team, UMC Student-Athletes and the Crookston Community,” says Natasha Kuhle, Assistant Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator. “This event is free to the public and will feature lots of prizes and games for kids. Tuesday night we will be serving hotdogs for 50 cents, so fans can come out to eat and enjoy the event. Come out for a great night with the family and “Support Your Crookston Special Olympics.”
The UMC SAAC is a group of student-athletes that meet bi-monthly to discuss athletic and campus related issues and events and conduct several community service projects throughout the school year. There are two student athletes from each athletic team on the UMC campus that are represented in SAAC.
